Meet Catherine Boey Xiao Wei

Talent: Beauty Therapy
Institution/Organisation: Institute of Technical Education

Grateful for the opportunities ITE has given her, Catherine joined ITE in May 2013 as a Teaching Associate to contribute to training students, as well as to coach and share her experience with future WorldSkills Competitors.  She will be commencing her degree studies – BSc (Hons) in Beauty and Spa Management – at the University of Arts London in Sept 2014 on an ITE Scholarship, and will join ITE as a lecturer, when she completes her degree programme in 2017. Catherine hopes to be a role model and inspire her students to believe in themselves and achieve their dreams, just as she had.

On her experience at the 2013 WorldSkills Competition, Catherine shared, “The Competition has helped me in so many ways, and contributed to who I am today. As a participant, not only have I honed my skills and knowledge in Beauty Therapy, I’ve also become more confident as an individual. I’ve become a lot more aware of my strengths and weaknesses, as well as how best to handle stressful situations. I’ve learnt how to work and interact with people from all over the world, and this is something that I wouldn’t have been able to experience, if not for the Competition. I’m very grateful to ITE for all the opportunities and support it has given me …I’m most thankful for the rigorous coaching and training from my dedicated lecturers. I look forward to imparting these skills to students, and to see them succeed and shine in this profession.”
