Institution/Organisation: Republic Polytechnic
Award/s: Bronze Medal in WorldSkills International 2011Gold Medal in WorldSkills Singapore 2010

William was from the Diploma in Digital Entertainment   Electronics at Republic Polytechnic.

He was part of the Wordskills   Singapore contingent in the 2011 competition held in London. The process   leading up to the international competition was not easy, demanding full   commitment to perfecting his craft. Two and a half years’ worth of training,   including weekends and public holidays spent in RP was put to the test in   just four days, where William was tested on several topics in the   “Information Network Cabling” category. In this category,   participants had to design, install, and test telecommunication networks.

With his steady hands and composure during the competition, he   edged out participants from 8 other countries, losing out only to Japan’s   Haruki Morino (Champion) and Korea’s Jin Hyuk Lee (1st runner-up).

When asked for advice for   aspiring contestants, he said, “Be self-motivated and have the right   attitude in your work. When you train, imagine that you’re competing and when   you compete, remain as calm as you were when you’re training.”

William is now studying for a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Game Design at the Singapore Institute of Technology.
