  1. What is WorldSkills Singapore?

    WorldSkills Singapore is the national competition organised to:

    • Promote the image and status of technical/skilled personnel in Singapore and accord recognition to the special talents and skills of our youths;
    • Raise the standard of excellence in technical skills through competition;
    • Generate greater public awareness and interest in technical education; and
    • Select highly-skilled youths to represent Singapore at international skills competitions.
  2. Who are the Organisers of WorldSkills Singapore 2016?
    WorldSkills Singapore is organised by the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) in conjunction with Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic.
  3. Who can participate in WorldSkills Singapore 2016?
    Singapore citizens, who are not older than **21 years of age on 1 January 2016 (21 years + some months is still eligible) as at 1 Jan 2016 and who are undergoing/or completed relevant training/course at an educational institution/company can participate. They must register through their sponsoring institutions/companies.
    **exception for Aircraft Maintenance, Mechatronics and Information Network Cabling, the age limit is 23 year of age, as at 1 Jan 2016.
  4. How do sponsoring institutions/companies register their competitors?
    Stage 1 Sponsoring institutions/companies are given up to Fri 4 Dec 2015 to indicate the number of competitors that they wish to field for each of the skills areas offered.
    Stage 2 Sponsoring institutions/companies are notified of the number of competitors that they can field for each skills area by 29 Jan 2016. They are given up to 8 Apr 2016 to register their competitors online.
  5. Can a sponsoring institution/company replace its competitors?
    Yes. The WorldSkills Singapore Secretariat must be informed of the replacement at least one month before the Finals.
  6. How many skill areas can a competitor participate in?
    Each competitor is allowed to participate in only one skill area.
  7. What is the role of a Team Manager?
    Each sponsoring institution/company is required to appoint a Team Manager to co-ordinate its participation in WorldSkills Singapore. The Team Manager will act as the spokesperson of the competitors and ensure that all pertinent information on WorldSkills Singapore is clearly communicated to competitors before the competition. He can also report grievances encountered by competitors, competitors during the competition and this must be done on the same day of the competition.
  8. Are the competitors allowed to use their own tools during the competition?
    Competitors are allowed to use their own tools during the competition, but they must submit a list of the tools they intend to bring to the competition site for the Technical Working Group for approval before the Finals.
  9. How are the competitors assessed in the competition?
    Competitors are assessed on their demonstration of precision, functionality, finishing and quality of workmanship of their projects and economic use of materials.
  10. What are the awards given out?

    The top 3 awards for each competition areas are as follows:

    • Gold Medal, Certificate of Award and $3,000 cash
    • Silver Medal, Certificate of Award and $2,000 cash
    • Bronze Medal, Certificate of Award and $1,000 cash
  11. Who can represent Singapore at the 44th WorldSkills Competition?
    The winners of WorldSkills Competition, who have displayed a high standard of skills, will be considered for selection to represent Singapore at the 44th WorldSkills Competition. They will be given further training to prepare them for international competition.
  12. What are the incentives for WorldSkills Competition winners?

    Singapore winners at the WorldSkills Competition will receive the Gold, Silver or Bronze medals awarded by the WorldSkills Competition Organisers at the WorldSkills Competition’s Closing Ceremony. In addition, they will receive the following cash prizes:

    • WorldSkills Competition Gold Medallist : $7,000
    • WorldSkills Competition Silver Medallist : $5,000
    • WorldSkills Competition Bronze Medallist : $3,000
