Team Singapore participated in skills areas held in nine member countries and competed in 26 skills areas, which included four new areas – (1) Additive Manufacturing, (2) Digital Construction, (3) Mobile Applications Development and (4) Robot Systems Integration. Please refer to Annex C for more information on Singapore’s participation in the past WSCs.

Mr Tan Kok Yam, Chairman of WorldSkills Singapore Council, and Chief Executive of SkillsFuture Singapore, said, “Our young Team Singapore competitors have done us proud and have stood tall among the best in the world. They have demonstrated determination and resilience in their preparations, and have displayed exceptional skills mastery and cool-headedness during the competitions. We are very proud of their performance at the WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition, and we look forward to seeing our competitors once again fly our flag high at the WorldSkills ASEAN 2023 in Singapore.”

“The WorldSkills Competition had truly been an amazing and rewarding journey for me. Through the competition, we had the opportunity to meet the most talented and skilled youths from around the world and exchanged knowledge, best practices, and cultures. SINGAPORE’S PARTICIPATION IN PAST WORLDSKILLS COMPETITIONS

For over 70 years, the WorldSkills Competition (WSC), organised by WorldSkills International, has come to symbolise the pinnacle of excellence in skilled trades and technologies training.

Every two years, over a thousand talented youths, accompanied by their teachers, coaches and trainers, gather from around the world to compete in the skills of their various trades and to test themselves against demanding international standards. They represent the best of their peers drawn from regional and national skills competitions.

First introduced as a national skills competition in Madrid, Spain, in 1947, to raise the image of vocational training in the country, the WSC became an international competition in 1950 with two participating countries – Spain and Portugal.

SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG), is Singapore’s Official Representative at WorldSkills International, a non-profit organisation whose mission is to promote the image of skills and skilled careers through competitions and exchanges for youths.

Singapore has been participating in the WorldSkills Competitions since 1995, and the table below summarises Team Singapore’s participation over the years:
